5 Digital Marketing Myths I’m Surprised Are Still Around

As fast as digital marketing changes, people, and their belief usually don’t. Even with the data right in front of us, some still believe the old ways of doing things are the best way. You’d think that in such a rapidly changing industry the players would be willing and able to change. Well, you don’t have to be one of those people stuck in their ways, take a look at these common digital marketing myths and ask yourself if you’re still doing them and whether or not you’d be willing to change.

Myth 1: Digital Marketing Doesn’t Work For B2B

Everyone is online.

Repeat that.

Everyone is online.

Even though your typical client is B2B there is still a person behind that screen, online, working and surfing, online. Get your ads out there!

B2B digital marketing can and does work, it’s just a little bit harder. The challenge with this one is that you really have to be locked into your customer. You need to be able to figure out how and where to put your ads while the person who is making purchasing decisions for the business will see them.

Myth 2: Ads Are Disruptive

Ads are not disruptive.

Bad ads are disruptive.

Focus on creating high-quality content that sets you apart as an authority in your industry. Teach your customers something that they might not know or give them some information for free. These are good ads that people will take action with and come across as more genuine.

Do not just make something flashy for the sake of getting eyes on your ad. It’s annoying and spammy.

Myth 3: You Should Focus On Desktop Viewers

What’s in everyone’s pocket all the time?

Their MOBILE phone.

More Google searches are done on mobile devices than desktops, and that’s not going to be changing anytime soon.

Advancements in voice search and more priority for websites that are mobile-friendly mean the new avenue to go is mobile.

Try focusing more on mobile content for a while and see how it works. Have fun with it and make sure you’re diving into your analytics to confirm any data,

Myth 4: Digital Advertising Isn’t For Small Business

This couldn’t be further from the truth!

Never has there been a time where a small business could target their perfect target market for as cheap as they can right now. For $250 a month (or less) a small business could get immense value from a well developed Facebook ad. Social media advertising is very well suited for small business given the local targeting capabilities.

What can you do? Focus on building a great website first and then try your hand at driving traffic through advertising.

Myth 5: Digital Advertising Is Guaranteed To Get Results

While digital advertising is an extremely powerful tool, it’s not some magic vehicle where you put money in and get leads out.

A lot goes into a successful digital marketing and advertising campaign. Image, graphic design, budget, copy, targeting, and spend levels are just some of the variables that make up a campaign.

It’s best to leave these things to the pros to make sure you’re getting the best bang for your buck.
